Announcing the Oddball Stocks Newsletter

A while back I wrote a post where I tossed around the idea of starting an investment newsletter. Based on the responses I received from that post I decided to go ahead and publish a newsletter.  I'm pleased to announce that the first issue is finished and published.

The Oddball Stocks Newsletter can be best thought of as a premium version of this blog.  I post a lot of things on here, but my best ideas are going straight to the newsletter.  That's not to say I won't ever post about great investments here, I will continue to do that.  But the best ideas are reserved for subscribers.

I don't want to give much away about the first issue, but I will say this.  All four ideas in the first issue are selling for 50% of intrinsic value.  A discount almost unheard of in this market.

For subscription information please visit:  http://www.oddballstocksnewsletter.com

A subscription to the newsletter includes:

  • An introduction letter containing general thoughts, thoughts on the current market, investment strategies, and other musings.
  • At least four new investment idea write-ups.
  • An update section with information on oddball stocks.  This is where you will find information on stocks that have been profiled in the past, or other stocks worth mentioning.
  • A guest investment idea.  The newsletter doesn’t just find undiscovered stocks, it finds undiscovered managers too.  A guest investment idea by an undiscovered manager is included in each issue.  These are managers who have innovative investment ideas that aren’t well known by the market.
  • A profile on an attractive bank stock.
  • All issues are distributed digitally in a PDF format.
  • An annual subscription consists of six issues approximately spaced two months apart.
  • The cost is $295 a year.

  1. I often see that the investments you post are incredibly obscure and hidden. How do you go about finding these deep value stocks? Are there any good screeners I should visit or websites I should check out? I know what to look for but not where to look.

  2. Are you going to add a logo/link to the sidebar of your blog like you did with CBD?

  3. Is the profile on the attractive bank stock included or in addition to the 4 writeups

  4. May I know where will the stock ideas be listed? Is there a recommended buy in price and price to sell? What will be the typical holding period? If your stocks are listed internationally, which broker would you suggest for us to invest in this stocks? Thanks

    1. Anywhere, I don't have a preference. My preference is for stocks that are easily purchasable by any investor. Sometimes they might be US stocks, other times international stocks. It depends on where the value is.

My goal is to provide ideas that are actionable by anyone. This means I'm not going to be writing about a stock from some tiny Asian country or something. If I do it would be an extra idea that I throw in.

I don't offer buy and sell prices. I frame the newsletter like my posts. I discuss the current value and the company's intrinsic value. Investors are comfortable with different purchase levels. A 50% MoS for one investor might be what they want, whereas another is comfortable with a 20% MoS. Both of those investors will appreciate the ideas.

I use Fidelity as my broker. I'm not sure if I recommend them or not. Schwab and Interactive Brokers can trade anything I mention as well.

      Hope this helps.

    2. Thanks for the reply. But how about in the event that something bad happens to the company that will permanently depress the stock price. We should just sell it off as when we deem fit? Will the next monthly report actually update on the previous month newsletter stocks?

  5. Nate,
I just finished reading the maiden newsletter and my first thought was "You are completely understating this thing." Under-promise and over-deliver I suppose? A few of my other thoughts were that these are some really compelling ideas and that the "Guest Idea" is a nice touch. My final thought was "I could go for some cranberry juice." But I had just finished my sandwich and was getting thirsty.

  8. Hi Nate - big fan of your blog and your value investment philosophy. With your newsletter have you got a rough idea of how often you are going to release it?

    Best, Giles
